Shifting our “mob mentality” to a Movement of Belonging

Core Values

We aim to infuse every ingredient of MOB with these fundamentals:

  • CURIOSITY — open, objective perceiving from a place of “i don’t know”

  • MOVEMENT — from cellular to celestial, no movement means death

  • HEALTH — holistic wellness for clarity and sustainability

  • PLAY — leveraging our innate intelligence

  • DIVERSITY — utilizing, sharing, and encouraging the widest range of experiences, perspectives, and resources

  • CO-CREATIVITY — 1+1=11… we are creations built to create, together

From these pillars, we practice LOVE, defined* as “the will to extend one’s self for the purpose of nurturing one’s own or another’s spiritual growth.” In other words, LOVE is a choice to take an action that requires effort.

Choosing this active effort repeatedly causes a Movement of Belonging.

* From M. Scott Peck’s The Road Less Traveled, and later amplified in bell hooks’ All About Love.

Equitable Pricing

Access to services like Coaching should not be limited to those with class privilege. Movement of Belonging is perpetually experimenting with tiered, pay-what-supports-you pricing structures that welcome multiple levels of financial resource. It is a little scary to try such a model as a (very) small business, but we cannot imagine growing Movement of Belonging any other way. It would make no sense.

There are as many ways to offer tiered pricing as there are levels of resource. As we learn, our model undoubtedly will evolve.

Class-equitable pricing only works when people do their best to categorize themselves accurately. Your honesty strengthens our community. 🙏 🖤

A Note About My Coaching

In 2006, I hired my first Coach, and my life forever changed. Six months later, I jumped head first from an extremely “successful” position on the corporate ladder and proclaimed myself a Coach, fervently applying what I was learning to support others. In those first years as a Coach, I wore all the couture coaching labels: Life Coach, Career Coach, Wellness Coach, Creativity Coach, Business Coach.

Yes, clients were getting results, but it felt formulaic, heady. And that makes sense… because I was formulaic and heady! (You can take the girl outta Accounting, but you can’t take Accounting outta the girl.)

My coaching has changed A LOT since then. Because I have changed a lot.

I cannot begin to count the various modalities and approaches and tools that wiggle their way into my coaching. It depends on what the Client needs, and what I have been researching and learning recently. A bottomless treasure trove to customize to each unique Client. But there are constants, too, like curiosity and awareness practices, movement experiments, and wellness fundamentals.

Traditional marketing insists I must convince you that you are suffering because you have a problem, and that if you pay me, I can fix it for you. We are not problems to be solved; we do not need to “be better.” Traditional marketing (and much of the coaching industry at-large) is rooted in economic systems that thrive on this problem-solution model, and A LOT of resources are spent to first make us believe we have a problem, and then conveniently supply us the solution.

Admittedly, these systems are infiltrated into my westernized cells. “Self-improvement” is a damn tricky drug to quit. But it feels important to share with you that I have been actively learning and incorporating alternatives into my coaching (and my life). The more we practice feeling our own bodies, being creative agents of our own physical and mental movements, embracing what’s typically shunned to the shadows - the more we claim autonomy.

To belong to Self — the whole Self — is an act of subversion.

Paradoxically, we are not built to go it alone. This work asks us to swim against the current a bit — an effort that becomes easier as a team. We are social creatures who grow from inputs and outputs with other human animals. My mission is to be one of those human animal teammates who supports others to feel vibrant, safe, creative, at home in their own skin - which in turn, elevates my own sense of Belonging. Yup, yup, a Möbius strip of Belonging. (A MOBius strip?!) Round and round we go. Where we stop, nobody knows. 🙏 🖤
